Are you a gastronomad and wine tourist? Korčula is the homeland of the Greeks and the Greeks, do we need to say anything more?

Did you know that the streets inside the city walls of Korčula are laid out in the shape of a herringbone? The medieval builders thus enabled the free flow of air through the city, but also received protection from strong winds. The most important historical sights of the city are the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral of St. Mark, the City Hall and the massive city walls and towers. The city and island of Korčula passed their statute in 1214, and among its provisions is the abolition of slavery. Korčula thus became the first city in Europe to abolish slavery. Korcula is a city with a rich past, and in order to get to know it, you must visit the City Museum with Greek Psephism, the Icon Collection, the Abbey Treasury, the cathedral, the House of Marco Polo, the Veliki Revelin Tower, etc... The narrow streets and atmosphere of the old town will give the visitor the feeling that he has found himself in the Middle Ages.

Guests will also learn:

  • that Lumbarda is the only place on the island with sandy beaches, and the vineyards of the famous autochthonous Greek variety are the reason why wine connoisseurs like to visit Lumbarda and its wineries,
  • that Smokvica is the homeland of pošip, the first legally protected Croatian white wine,
  • that Vela Luka provides up to 10% of the total production of olive oil in Croatia,
  • that if you joined the dry walls of the islands in one line, you could encircle the Earth one and a half times around the equator,
  • that throughout history, and even today, the island of Korčula is one of the most wooded Croatian islands,
  • that the Moreška fencing dance is included in the intangible treasures of Croatia and is danced only on Korčula,
